Wilderness Little Makalolo

Classic tented camp · Makalolo private concession, south-east · Wilderness

A drawing stands in because nobody has sent us a photograph of Wilderness Little Makalolo yet. We only publish images we have permission for. Send us five and this page changes the same week.

Top-end Inside the park Safari company

Six tents, twelve guests, and the log-pile hide that has produced more famous Hwange elephant photographs than anywhere else. It sits at eye level on the waterhole in front of camp. Smaller and more classic than its sister camp Linkwasha.

Why you'd pick it

  • The log-pile hide, Hwange's best-known elephant photography hide
  • A second raised hide as well
  • Star bed at Madison Pan

Getting there if you are self-driving

You can reach this camp in your own vehicle, which almost nobody publishes and most people assume is impossible. You do not drive to the camp itself: you drive to Davison's Camp on the edge of the private concession, leave your vehicle there under shelter, and Wilderness collects you from Davison's in one of their vehicles. Your car stays at Davison's for the duration.

  • Self-drive arrivals are accepted.
  • You drive as far as Davison's Camp, not to the camp itself.
  • Your vehicle stays in shelter at Davison's while you are in camp.
  • Wilderness collects you from Davison's in their own vehicle.

What the park charges on top

The rate above buys you a bed. Hwange National Park charges its own entry fee for every day you are inside, and almost no booking site shows you that.

Park entryThe rate for guests sleeping inside the park.
$12per person, per day
VehicleForeign-registered vehicle, at the staying-inside rate.
$3per vehicle, per day

Three nights means three days inside, so two adults sharing one vehicle pay $81 in park fees before anyone pays for a bed.

Sleeping inside the boundary is what keeps that low. $12 if you sleep inside the park, against $24 a day for anyone driving in from outside.

Rates

From $774 pppn. $774 to $1,504 per person per night on Wilderness's own 2026 and 2027 rate card, depending on the date. Fully inclusive, and unusually the rate covers your park fees as well as all meals, both daily activities, laundry and local drinks.

All inclusive. The rate covers meals, drinks, activities and the transfers named below. Park fees are charged separately.

Indicative 2026 rates from operators' own rate cards, gathered July 2026. Always confirm with the lodge. One thing to watch when comparing: some camps include ZimParks fees in their rate and some do not, which shifts the real gap by $12 to $36 per person per night.
