A ten-tent camp on a private concession on Hwange's eastern boundary, just over an hour's drive from Main Camp. Founded in 1992 and still run by the same family, it revolves around one feature: a tunnel from the deck to an underground photographic hide at water level, open unaccompanied at any hour. Rates are fully inclusive with up to four activities a day, and nothing else in Hwange matches that hide.

The rate above buys you a bed. Hwange National Park charges its own entry fee for every day you are inside. Here is what that adds up to.

Is The Hide good for families?
Yes, families are well catered for. The main camp has family deluxe tents, The Private Hide takes up to six adults and four children with its own guide and vehicle, and Tom's Little Hide, an exclusive-use house with four rooms, welcomes children of all ages. We found no published minimum age for the main camp, and agents quote age ten, so confirm before booking.
Is The Hide good for a honeymoon?
It is a strong choice. The main camp has honeymoon deluxe tents, and the Dove's Nest, a treehouse sleep-out overlooking the plain, is described by the camp as perfect for honeymoons and anniversaries. It is free on stays of three nights or more. Every tent has a private veranda facing the waterhole.

When is The Hide open, and when is it cheapest?
The Hide is open year-round. Green season, from 1 November to 31 March, is cheapest at $445 to $467 a person. Mid season in April and May costs $565 to $595, and high season from 1 June to 31 October runs $795 to $835. Tents are fan-cooled in summer.
